Sports Day 2018

This year saw the first combined Sports Day for PYP and MYP at Fairview. Kids learn a lot through sports. Winning and losing become secondary as they grow – teamwork takes more priority. The more important thing, though, is for them to have fun. Here are some highlights from the event....

Chinese New Year Traditions

Chinese New Year means cookies, firecrackers, lion dances and dragon dances. Contrary to popular belief, New Year does not start on the first day of the lunar calendar. It starts during the first day of Spring – Li Chun. Chinese people all over the world would bank in money during auspicious times, and try to balance an egg on a smooth surface at a specific time. This year is the Year of the Dog. When the lunar calendar starts tomorrow, hopefully this means a better time for everybody all over the world. Gong Xi Fa Cai!...

And it’s 2018!

There goes another year… 2017 went by really fast. The same malls came up with fireworks this year. The ones at Mutiara Damansara were nicer this year. Less creative, but they were shot higher (I had to adjust my camera a few times). Here’s to hoping that 2018 is a better year all around (there’s an 8 at the back of the year number this time…...

New Style Mamaks?

Now the old mamak stalls are nearly all gone, and disappearing fast from the market. Now if you want a simple plate of roti canai or Indomie goreng, you have to pay more at fancier restaurants. The IndoBowl opened up in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year, and was an instant hit as it offered Indomie in various cooking styles. Now it’s opened up a second branch in SS15, Subang Jaya.
