Marvel 10 Years of Heroes

Marvel 10 Years of Heroes

Posted by on Aug 4, 2019 in Events, Featured

Avengers: Endgame is over and done with. And yet, most Marvel fans still talk about the movies, the heroes and the people behind one of the biggest movie saga series in history. The Ten Years of Heroes Exhibition is now in Pavilion KL. I finally had a chance to visit yesterday, after weeks of planning and putting it off. And boy, what a visit we had! The different stations portrayed most of the heroes that made Avengers so unforgettable to fans. Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Thanos and Captain Marvel were all featured in the hall. My friends and I spent about three hours browsing through movie props, relics and interactive kiosks that feature the best parts of the 22 Avenger movies. Here are some memorable pictures from our visit: Fallen hero I love you 3000 I can do this all day Only the taillights can be seen Born to be a king, I ask one thing in return: a front seat to watch Earth burn God of Thunder, showcased in lightning The amulet… Starlord’s blaster… Too bad they don’t have anything much from my favorite raccoon Wakanda forever Black Panther in relief Don’t step on me Too bad they didn’t show the original blue and red one I am Iron Man… SNAP! Party time! Oh, wait, it’s party time every day anyway The final fight Interested? The exhibition would be in Level 10, Pavilion Elite until the end of October. It might even be worth a second visit… hmmm. You’d need to bring some extra cash though – the gift shop is scrumptious. I spent A LOT on souvenirs from my visit. Don’t forget to get your ID...

This last month has been an endless whir of farewell parties, presents, the graduation ceremony and goodbyes. I’ve had endless conversations with students the last two weeks. Most of it was the same – Miss, we’re going to miss you. Why can’t you stay? When you’ve been teaching the same bunch of kids for some time, in the same environment, you tend to start reflecting on what you’ve achieved, exactly. What is a teacher looking for from a student? It’s easy to say that a teacher wants good results. But a kid does not have to come to school for that. What I want from my students are a whole lot more… I want them to be able to tell what’s right and wrong. I want them to be able to do the correct thing, even if it’s a difficult path to follow. I want them independent enough to think for themselves. These are so much more important than academic results (those are important as well, by the way, just not as highly ranked in my eyes). Miss the place? Not really… Miss the job? I’m doing the same thing, in another place, so no… Miss the friends I’ve made here? Yes,...

Leon Lai – Metro 2019

Leon Lai – Metro 2019

(Photo courtesy of Kow Kay Sin). I first noticed Leon Lai in 1990. He had just started his music career at that time. I was hooked. The first time he came to Malaysia for a concert, in 1994, I was a broke student. I had to skip the concert. Then, in 2001, I went for his second concert in Malaysia. It was really fun. Last Saturday, Leon came for his third (and possibly last) concert in Malaysia. The 18-year gap between the two concerts brought out ALL of his fans, and the hall was quite full. The songs Leon sang this time really brought me down memory lane. Singing along to all 21 songs made me realize how much I miss listening to his voice. Hopefully Leon comes again…...
